Lamp Vine

Lamp vines are plants most known for the globes of luminescent fluid that they produce.

Description[edit | edit source]

Lamp vines take root where their seeds can find a porous, elevated surface, such as on branches of large trees and giant mushrooms, or where detritus has gathered on tall rocks or tree canopies, and then grow to creep over the whole upward-facing part of the surface. From there, semi-woody vines will grow out and hang downward, sometimes up to 70 meters in length if the structure they're rooted to can support it.

The defining feature of the vine is the glowing globes that grown on their long vines. The globes are made of a transparent membrane filled with a glowing liquid. The liquid quickly loses its luminescent property when exposed to air if the membrane is broken. The purpose of the globes seems to be to help attract insects to the vines' flowers to increase the odds of pollination and seed spreading.

Habitat[edit | edit source]

Lamp vines need an environment that is damp and shady to survive, with ample elevated surfaces to grow on such as large trees or mushrooms. They are very common in Umiera and somewhat common in other thick forests. Their roots can't penetrate crystalline structures, so they are not able to survive in crystal forest biomes even if the light and moisture requirements are met. These plants are commonly kept as house plants because they are not too difficult to maintain and provide indoor light.
